Identity
The roar of an engine approached from a distance.
Alexander Vance's expression was cold and stern as he sharply turned the steering wheel.
The car body cut a sharp arc.
Tires screeched against the pavement.
The black sedan came to a steady stop outside the grandmother's courtyard gate.
Alexander pushed the door open and stepped out.
He expected to see the girl being bullied.
But the scene before him made him freeze in place.
Evelyn Ross stood tall and straight.
Her eyes were sharp as daggers.
An intimidating aura radiated from her.
Security guards lay scattered at her feet.
Nannies hid in the distance, not daring to approach.
Julian Evans looked utterly shocked.
He clearly hadn't expected Evelyn to be so skilled.
He stared at her dumbfounded.
At this moment, she was like an unattainable flower on a high peak.
Sacred and inviolable.
The frustration of failing to win her over in college came flooding back.
It wasn't that she didn't like him.
He simply wasn't worthy of her.
The Evelyn he knew was quiet and introverted.
She always kept to herself.
She obediently completed all her schoolwork.
She never argued with anyone.
But now he understood.
That was just her disguise.
She was like a lurking leopard.
She couldn't be bothered to deal with the sheep.
Isabella Ashcroft was equally shocked.
When she was at the Ashcroft residence, Evelyn was easily manipulated.
When had she become so capable?
Seven or eight security guards couldn't even get near her!
She noticed the admiration in Julian's eyes.
Jealousy instantly surged within her.
"Evelyn Ross, how dare you start a fight at the Vance residence!" Isabella shrieked.
"Call the police! We must call the police!"
Margaret Evans snapped back to reality and hurriedly retreated.
She pulled out her phone to dial.
"Let's see if you dare to attack the police!"
Her phone was suddenly snatched away.
Evelyn played with the phone.
A cold smile curled her lips.
"You wouldn't let Auntie Fang make a call earlier."
"You think I'll let you call the police?"
Margaret stumbled back in fear.
She fell to the ground.
It was then that she heard footsteps.
Turning her head, she saw Alexander like a lifesaver.
"Alexander! Control this woman! She's gone mad!"
Evelyn glanced at Alexander.
Her eyes remained icy.
The fierce aura around her hadn't dissipated.
It seemed ready to erupt again at any moment.
Alexander strode forward and grasped her hand.
He frowned deeply.
"How could you resort to violence?"
Evelyn's eyes darkened.
Isabella seized the opportunity to exaggerate.
"Uncle, we were just talking to her properly."
"She suddenly started hitting people..."
"What if she disturbs the grandmother?"
Margaret quickly agreed.
"Exactly! Alexander, look at her."
"She doesn't act like a lady at all! So barbaric!"
Julian stared intently at their joined hands.
His face turned pale with anger.
Evelyn said coldly, "You think I shouldn't have fought back?"
"Of course not." Alexander's frown deepened.
Evelyn was about to pull her hand back.
But then she heard his urgent tone.
"Don't you know you're bleeding?"
"Don't you know how severe your anemia is?"
"How precious is your blood?"
Evelyn was stunned.
So he was worried about that.
Warmth spread through her heart.
The coldness around her gradually faded.
Alexander turned and ordered the nanny.
"Quick, call the family doctor!"
Soon, the nanny hurried over with the doctor.
The doctor asked nervously.
"Where is Miss Ross injured? Is it serious?"
Evelyn silently extended her hand.
The doctor looked at the small, already scabbed wound.
The corner of his mouth twitched.
"I arrived too late..."
"The wound has already healed."
Evelyn turned her face away.
Alexander cleared his throat lightly.
The doctor helplessly disinfected the area with iodine.
Under Alexander's watchful gaze, he applied a cartoon band-aid.
The scene left everyone dumbfounded.
Margaret was the first to recover.
"Alexander! How can you shield her like this?"
"Do you know how arrogant she was just now?"
Alexander shot her a cold glance.
"Miss Ross has always been reasonable."
"You must have pushed her too far."
Isabella stepped forward.
"Uncle, she was harassing Julian!"
"We only wanted her to leave because we were worried it would affect your uncle-nephew relationship."
Alexander looked at Julian.
"What a coincidence."
"There happen to be surveillance cameras near the courtyard."
"Shall we see who was harassing whom?"
Julian immediately became speechless.
"That won't be necessary..."
"I just wanted to make things clear with her..."
Margaret quickly changed the subject.
"Alexander, I was thinking of you!"
"Your wife is returning to the country soon."
"Seeing her would cause misunderstandings!"
Isabella added fuel to the fire.
"Uncle, you don't know."
"She just said she is the lady of this house."
"That she is your wife..."
Evelyn frowned.
She had never said that.
She was about to explain.
But she saw a flicker of amusement in Alexander's eyes.
The corner of his lips curled up slightly.
Just then, Eleanor Vance ran out angrily.
"You rascal! Tell them!"
"Is your granddaughter-in-law your wife or not?"
