"Evelyn!"
Alexander Vance tried to rush forward.
Julian Evans held his arm tightly. "Uncle, it's dangerous!"
Alexander's eyes turned sharp. He threw a punch backward, hitting Julian's chest.
The crowd was too dense. He couldn't break free immediately.
Marcus Valentine's furious shout came from ahead. "This is madness!"
A trainer held Marcus back. "That horse is too wild. Don't approach!"
Marcus's face turned livid with anger. "Is this love child insane? Did she forget everything I just said?!"
He turned and yelled at Alexander. "What kind of foolish wife did you marry?"
Alexander finally broke through the crowd and reached the front.
His heart pounded like a drum. Regret flooded him.
Why had he let go of her hand just now...
Zephyr was notoriously wild. It had taken Alexander days and nights to earn its loyalty.
Over the years, it had injured countless horse trainers.
Evelyn, she...
Alexander was about to charge into the arena when he suddenly froze.
The violently neighing Zephyr had suddenly calmed down.
It lowered its head and nuzzled Evelyn's shoulder affectionately.
Everyone stared in stunned silence.
The horse was actually trying to please her?
Evelyn reached out and stroked its head. Zephyr immediately became as docile as a big dog.
It even wagged its tail.
The entire place fell silent.
Marcus was the first to recover. He said in amazement, "Alexander, is your horse enchanted? Does it know she's your wife?"
The crowd quickly agreed.
"This horse is so intelligent!"
"It's like a human spirit reborn in a horse..."
"I actually see favoritism in a horse's behavior!"
Isabella Ashcroft stamped her foot in frustration. She deliberately raised her voice. "Uncle, you must bring Evelyn to the equestrian club often. You kept it so secret, even my mother didn't know..."
Marcus's expression instantly darkened.
Remembering his uncle's instructions, his dislike for Evelyn deepened.
He sneered. "Evelyn, since you come often, your riding skills must be decent. Come on, let's all take a run together!"
The young heirs all mounted their horses.
Marcus sat high on his chestnut horse, looking down at her. "Get on your horse! Don't tell me you can't even do that?"
The crowd laughed mockingly.
"The first lesson in equestrian classes is mounting. She can't even do that?"
"Mr. Vance had to help her down earlier..."
"She's probably scared out of her wits by Zephyr!"
Isabella walked to Alexander's side, pretending to advise him. "Uncle, maybe you should apologize to Mr. Valentine? Don't let Evelyn run. What if something happens..."
But Alexander's gaze was fixed intently on the woman in the arena.
Only he knew this was their first time at the equestrian club.
Zephyr never showed such gentleness to anyone easily.
Even in his presence, it had never been this submissive.
Remembering the horse trainer Marcus mentioned...
A thought flashed through Alexander's mind.
Evelyn suddenly gave him a playful smile. "Let's take a run then."
"Yah!"
The young heirs urged their horses into a gallop.
A few graceful young women were also on the field.
Marcus shouted arrogantly. "Mount up!"
Zephyr was simply too tall. The stirrups were custom-made for Alexander's height.
Evelyn was about to find leverage to mount when a figure suddenly approached.
Alexander came to her front. He interlaced his hands and bent slightly. "Let me help you up."
His eyes were deep, his voice low.
Evelyn smiled warmly and stepped onto his palms.
Using his support, she leaped up and landed steadily in the saddle.
Her movements were fluid and graceful, crisp and efficient.
A look of admiration flashed in Alexander's eyes.
Marcus scoffed. "All show! Let's see if you can actually run!"
Others joined in the ridicule.
"Girls are all about posing. How fast can she go?"
"A love child who's never taken equestrian lessons? She'll be lucky not to fall off..."
Evelyn raised an eyebrow at Alexander with a smile. She patted Zephyr lightly. "Yah!"
Zephyr shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.
