Chapter 172

The Photo!

Evelyn answered Ryan Roland's question.

Her gaze swept into the distance.

Marcus Valentine's motorcade was approaching slowly.

Ryan spoke up. "I'll go greet Marcus Valentine."

Inside the distant car.

Marcus narrowed his eyes as he looked over. "Isabella, your family's love child has managed to latch onto Ryan Roland?"

The Roland family held considerable status in New York.

Isabella lowered her eyes. "Evelyn helped Chloe Roland before and used that to get close to the Rolands. She started a company, and Ryan gave her a lot of raw materials for free…"

After the raw materials incident, Ryan had given that batch to Evelyn for free as an apology.

It was a common business courtesy.

But with Isabella's deliberate spin, the meaning instantly changed.

The others in the car immediately began to gossip.

"She must have known Miss Roland's identity when she helped her!"

"Using a small favor to cling to the Roland family. That woman is something else."

"She's a love child. She dreams of squeezing into our circle."

"Ryan dotes on his sister the most. She found his weakness perfectly!"

"So calculating. Every step is meticulously planned."

"No wonder she desperately saved Young Master Valentine. She just wanted a favor!"

"Young Master Valentine, you must be careful. Don't let her entangle you!"

Marcus's expression grew darker.

His improving opinion of Evelyn was now clouded again.

He snorted coldly and pushed the car door open.

He walked straight toward Ryan and the other two.

A staff member from the equestrian club was thanking Evelyn. "Mrs. Vance, thank you for your help today. If something had happened to Young Master Valentine, we couldn't have borne the responsibility!"

Evelyn responded mildly. "It was nothing."

Chloe's eyes shone. "You saved Marcus Valentine? On a horse? Oh my god, I missed it! Marcus's horsemanship is so strong. You're better than him? You must be the best in San Francisco!"

Marcus scoffed. "What kind of best is she? She just got lucky and found a splinter in the horse's rear. Chloe, are you that simple-minded? You believe everything people say?"

Chloe immediately flared up. "Then why didn't you find it? Marcus, is it so hard to admit someone else is skilled?"

Marcus snorted coldly. "Skilled? You probably haven't seen a real equestrian expert! I'm meeting my idol tonight. Chloe, being able to ride doesn't mean you have good horsemanship!"

He paused as he passed by Chloe. "One more thing. Use your head. Don't let some love child use you as a pawn!"

Chloe was so angry her eyes went wide.

Ryan frowned and looked toward Isabella in the crowd, immediately understanding. "Marcus, I should be saying that to you! Use your head. Don't let people make a fool out of you! Many things aren't what they seem on the surface!"

Marcus glanced at him. "Ryan, there's a limit to spoiling your sister. At least I know who the legitimate young lady is and who's the love child. Your sister, on the other hand, can't tell right from wrong! People in our circle mingling with a love child? If you're fine with it, I'm not playing along!"

"You—!"

Chloe pointed at his retreating back, too angry to speak.

Evelyn kept her eyes downcast and remained silent.

Only after the group had walked away did she smile bitterly.

The brand of being a love child might never wash off.

If she had married an ordinary person, no one would constantly emphasize her status. But she had to marry Alexander Vance…

"Marcus is a jerk! How can people be divided into classes! This is infuriating!"

Chloe stomped her foot in frustration.

Evelyn took a deep breath and took her hand. "Let's not talk about it. Weren't we going to dinner? What are we having tonight?"

Chloe quickly composed herself. "A seafood feast. Do you like that?"

"Okay."

Evelyn went to the changing room to get dressed.

She ran into Alexander, who had just finished a phone call.

She didn't invite him to the Roland family dinner. Firstly, he was busy. Secondly, he had issues with the Rolands.

They said goodbye in the parking lot.

Evelyn got into Ryan's car, which drove toward the Roland villa.

Chloe was in San Francisco for rehabilitation, so Ryan had simply bought a villa. Coincidentally, it was in the same gated community as the Ashcroft family.

Evelyn glanced briefly in the direction of the Ashcroft house before looking away.

She would not set foot there again.

The car stopped, and the three of them entered.

Mr. and Mrs. Roland had been waiting for a long time. Mr. Roland complained as soon as he saw Ryan. "I told you to come back early, but you had to go to the equestrian club! Otherwise, we could have talked with Evelyn at noon!"

Ryan lowered his head and took the scolding.

Mrs. Roland smoothed things over. "Someone came from New York. Ryan had to accompany them. What's the rush of one afternoon? We've seen the photos. Our guess is confirmed. Hurry and show Evelyn!"

Mr. Roland reached out to Ryan. "The photos!"

Ryan handed over a folder.

Mr. Roland took out a photo and gave it to Evelyn. "Evelyn, look at this person. Doesn't she look eighty percent like you?"
