Chapter 24

Great stamina!

Several pairs of eyes turned toward the speaker.

Jason Lawrence stood there.

He had heavy dark circles under his eyes and an impatient expression.

Julian Evans was stunned. "You're her husband?"

"Of course not." Jason scoffed. "If her husband knew you were bullying her here, he would have already taken action! How could he just stand by and watch?"

Julian fell silent.

He stood up, enduring the pain, his gaze cold. "I want to transfer her to my team."

"No." Jason's tone was firm. "She's my person. You don't get to interfere."

He was still his usual arrogant self, but Evelyn found him surprisingly agreeable at this moment.

Julian was puzzled. "Don't you hate people who get by on connections the most?"

Jason sneered. "What right do you have to call her that? You, an undergraduate, became a team leader. Aren't you the biggest connection case of all?"

Julian's face darkened. "I am the eldest grandson of the Vance family!"

"Oh, the number one connection case at Vance Group."

"..."

Julian took a deep breath and suddenly said, "Dr. Nan is about to join my team soon. Jason, don't you admire him? If you stay out of this, I can introduce you."

Jason fell silent.

Who in the field of new energy research didn't admire Dr. Nan?

Jason had studied every one of Dr. Nan's papers repeatedly, each time feeling more amazed.

He had always wanted to find a way to meet Dr. Nan.

Julian was actually using this to threaten him...

Jason hesitated for a second out of respect for Dr. Nan, then said resolutely, "No!"

He looked at Evelyn. "Stop embarrassing yourself here. Let's go!"

Evelyn glanced at the spot where Alexander Vance had been standing and realized the man had left at some point.

She secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Thank goodness he was gone. Otherwise, that "great stamina" comment would have been way too awkward.

She quietly followed Jason, and the two left the archives.

Jason kept a stern face. "Because of you, I missed my chance to meet Dr. Nan!"

Evelyn, however, smiled slightly. "There will be other chances."

Jason scolded her again. "You're an undergraduate. Shouldn't you be staying in the office instead of coming here to humiliate yourself?"

Evelyn didn't argue.

Daniel was right. The team leader had a sharp tongue but a kind heart.

Julian, left behind, looked furious.

He clenched his fists tightly.

One day, he would make Evelyn beg him on her knees!

Once he had recovered, he called Isabella. "Didn't you say you were having lunch with Dr. Nan tomorrow afternoon? Take me with you!"

Evelyn and Jason returned to Team One. Only then did she see the WhatsApp message.

Using lunch as an excuse, she went to the top-floor office.

Alexander was wearing a white shirt and black suit, looking refined and noble. Without looking up, he pointed to the dining table. "You can start first."

Evelyn felt a little guilty.

He seemed like this... He probably hadn't heard that comment, right?

Just as she was thinking that, she heard the sound of a photo being taken.

Alexander calmly finished taking the picture and sent it to his "frail grandmother who couldn't handle any shocks." Then he walked over.

Evelyn knew what the photo was for and didn't ask. She just looked at the dining table, making small talk. "Your lunch looks very lavish, Mr. Vance."

"Hmm."

The man took off his jacket, rolled up his shirt sleeves, and sat down opposite her. He elegantly picked up his chopsticks. "Good nutrition leads to good stamina."

Evelyn:!!!

Her cheeks felt warm. Her gaze swept over his powerful forearms. She immediately packed a portion of the food.

"Mr. Vance, I just remembered I haven't fed my cat yet. I should go."

She picked up the food container. "Thank you for lunch."

Alexander's expression froze.

Evelyn left in a good mood.

R&D Team One.

Jason ate his takeout without tasting it, replaying the earlier scene in his mind.

He had thought that undergraduate was overly ambitious. Turns out, she had been wronged by Julian and just wanted to work hard to succeed?

Thinking about Julian's demands, they were truly insulting.

No wonder she was so desperate to learn.

Unfortunately, haste makes waste. Without a solid foundation, no amount of advanced materials would make sense.

He stood up and walked over to Daniel. He said quietly, "Give her some work this afternoon. Guide her a little."

Daniel was startled. "Ah, okay."

Jason looked embarrassed. He said fiercely, "So she doesn't run around causing trouble!"

Daniel: "..."

So when Evelyn tried to go to the archives that afternoon, Daniel stopped her. "The team leader said we don't keep idle people here. You need to finish some work first."

He assigned her some basic organizational tasks.

Without a clear research framework, organizing was tedious.

But a newcomer could learn a lot from it.

Daniel thought it would take at least a month to figure it all out.

Unexpectedly, Evelyn came to hand in her work just half an hour later.

Daniel: "..."

He checked it and found she had done it even better than they could!

Evelyn asked humbly, "Is there any other work? If not, I'll go to the archives."

Daniel wasn't sure what to assign her next.

He still had a lot he hadn't figured out himself.

Gritting his teeth, he handed over the task he was currently working on.

He had been stuck on this module for a week. It was a bit difficult... but this junior seemed to have a solid foundation?

Let her hit a wall, and she'll settle down and learn properly.

An hour later, Evelyn came to hand in her work again.

"Finished?"

Daniel was dumbfounded. Looking at the email on his computer, he realized she had easily solved the technical problem that had stumped him!

Daniel went to find Jason.

Jason pondered. "You're overcomplicating it. She just got lucky and solved it another way. Give her something even more difficult."

Daniel: "...Anything more difficult would be a core problem!"

This particular problem had stumped Jason for a month!

Jason: "Give it to her!"

It was just to keep her from running around anyway. Let her see what a real research problem looks like!

So Daniel handed the core problem that had stumped the entire Team One to Evelyn...
