The Murderer!
The room was deathly silent.
Evelyn's knocking sounded especially abrupt.
Alexander Vance paused.
He thought he heard Evelyn's voice...
He knew it was a foolish hope, perhaps a hallucination. This had happened several times over the past few days.
But he still looked up with anticipation, gazing toward the balcony!
Through the glass door, the balcony was empty.
Alexander frowned, slowly straightening up as he walked toward the balcony.
On the balcony.
Evelyn was being held in the corner, a hand clamped over her mouth. She struggled fiercely but had no strength!
Just then, she saw Alexander walking toward her. Evelyn's eyes lit up, and she stretched out her foot to kick a nearby flowerpot.
If she could make a noise, Alexander would definitely find her!
But the moment her foot touched the pot, the person behind her spoke in a low voice. "I mean no harm. I just want to remind you that Evelyn Ross died because of you. If you want to get Alexander Vance killed too, then go ahead and reveal yourself!"
Evelyn froze!
Her outstretched foot hung in mid-air.
What did he mean Evelyn died because of her... Did this person mistake her for Grace Nan?
She remembered what Grace said when she woke up on the boat, crying. "...Evelyn, it was me coming to find you that led them here... I exposed you!"
Exposed...
So the danger wasn't brought by Grace. It had always been there!
Grace once explained that pretending to be her and marrying Alexander was to protect her... She said someone wanted to kill them...
Evelyn didn't believe it at the time.
This was a society governed by law. How could that be possible!
But now, Grace was really dead!
Evelyn had almost died too!
Some unknown danger had been lurking in the shadows all along, but she had been completely unaware...
Evelyn could sense the person behind her meant no harm. Otherwise, given her current physical state, he could have easily killed her with a knife. There was no need to say all this.
She stopped struggling. The person behind her slowly released his grip.
Both remained silent. They could feel Alexander staring at the balcony from inside the room for a long time before he finally turned and walked away.
The person behind her breathed a sigh of relief. The moment Evelyn turned her head, he jumped off the balcony.
Evelyn only saw a man in a black baseball cap and mask, blending into the crowd moving through the main hall...
Evelyn did not give chase.
She looked again at the balcony door.
Despite what that man said, she still decided to confess to Alexander. She couldn't let him continue to suffer in the pain of her death...
But before she could act, another knock came from Alexander's room. Thomas Watson spoke from outside. "Boss, Miss Sophia is calling again. She says she wants to see you, or she won't eat..."
"Then let her die!"
Alexander's words were measured, his voice cold and resolute!
Silence fell outside the door. No one dared to speak further.
Evelyn was also rooted to the spot.
Everything with Grace happened too suddenly. She inexplicably gained a sister, and that sister was inexplicably murdered!
These changes were too rapid, with too many twists. After experiencing a life-and-death situation, she had completely forgotten her original circumstances. Moments ago, she only thought about reuniting with Alexander as soon as possible...
She had even forgotten about Sophia Watson's existence.
She also forgot that, before the kidnapping, she and Alexander were on their way to get a divorce...
Evelyn smiled bitterly. It was like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her, jolting her awake.
Even if they revealed their identities to each other, what then?
It would only force Alexander into an even more difficult choice.
She was in danger. Alexander would not abandon her. But what about Sophia Watson?
Why cause trouble for others?
Thinking this, Evelyn lowered her eyes. She quietly climbed down from the balcony and headed toward the funeral hall.
She was very familiar with the path from the老夫人's courtyard to the main hall.
Looking at the familiar scenery around her, Evelyn's gaze grew profound.
She made a decision.
She would live as Grace Nan for now. Because only Grace Nan knew so many secrets. She would stay in San Francisco to investigate who kidnapped her and killed her sister!
She was never one to run away. She would never just wait for death.
She would slowly uncover this unknown danger and eliminate it completely!
Evelyn's gaze grew increasingly determined, a sharp glint appearing in her eyes!
She did not go to the funeral hall. Instead, she went to the parking lot.
Mrs. Davis was watching short videos, laughing heartily, completely ignoring Chloe.
Chloe had finished her milk from the bottle by herself. She was now sitting in her car seat, bored and playing with her fingers. She looked well-behaved and sensible.
Evelyn directly picked up two-year-old Chloe and walked toward the funeral hall.
Only then did Mrs. Davis notice her. Phone in hand, she followed behind. "Grace, what are you doing with the child? The funeral hall is a solemn place. If this child cries and ruins Zack's affairs, I won't let you off!"
Evelyn walked quickly, completely ignoring her threats.
She and Chloe arrived at the entrance of the funeral hall, looking from a distance at the ice coffin.
Evelyn lowered her eyes, put Chloe down, and said softly, "Good child, kowtow to the ice coffin."
Little Chloe didn't understand anything, but she was always obedient.
Without asking anything, the little girl directly knelt on the ground and kowtowed twice with a thud.
The little girl's eyes inexplicably reddened, tears welling up. Chloe stood up. "Mommy, I suddenly feel like crying..."
Evelyn stared straight ahead, her own eyes suddenly reddening. She clenched her fists tightly.
Sister, I will definitely avenge you!
I will definitely take good care of Chloe, and help you... take back everything that belongs to you!!
She bent down and picked up Chloe.
Mrs. Davis arrived at that moment, about to curse at her.
Evelyn stopped her with a calm sentence. "Are you sure you want to make a scene here?"
Mrs. Davis immediately looked around nervously, covering her mouth.
Then she glared at her viciously and directly snatched Chloe from her arms. "I'm taking the child back to the car. I'll settle this with you after we leave the Vance family!"
After Mrs. Davis left, Evelyn took a mask from her pocket and slowly put it on to avoid being recognized by others.
With the mask on, she turned to leave.
Mrs. Ashcroft hadn't come to her funeral. She must be unwell. She needed to go see her mother!
But as she turned, she saw Mr. Valentine standing behind her, his eyes wide with surprise.
Evelyn instinctively called out, "Handsome Uncle?!"
Mr. Valentine immediately came to her. "Little friend, it really is you!"
