Chapter 273

It's really you!

Evelyn Ross walked to the door.

Mrs. Davis stood there.

She stepped forward quickly. "Is Chloe asleep?"

"Asleep."

Mrs. Davis avoided her gaze. She took out a bottle. "Chloe refused to drink tonight. Taste this. Is it spoiled?"

Evelyn narrowed her eyes.

She removed her mask. She took a sip without letting the milk touch her lips.

"It's fine."

Mrs. Davis waved her hand. "She must be full then. We'll change brands tomorrow... Don't waste the rest."

Evelyn hadn't eaten since morning.

She asked softly, "Has Mrs. Vance been buried?"

Mrs. Davis sounded impatient. "Buried! Do you really think you're her classmate? Drink it!"

Evelyn's eyes flickered. She finished the milk in a few gulps.

She was about to wash the bottle. Mrs. Davis snatched it away.

"I'll wash it. You've worked all day. Rest early."

Mrs. Davis took the bottle back to her room.

Something was definitely wrong.

Evelyn had a resistance to drugs.

She unlocked the door. She had only taken two steps inside.

Zack Davis walked toward her.

His usual coldness was gone. He smiled warmly. "You're back?"

Evelyn frowned.

Zack laughed. "Go rest... I won't disturb you two!"

He slipped past her. As he left, he dropped a line. "Chloe is with me. Serve the man in that room well!"

Evelyn grabbed his arm sharply.

She wanted to see what trick Zack was playing!

The moment she turned around, she froze.

A familiar figure sat on the sofa.

Alexander Vance!

Why was he here?

In her daze, Zack broke free and left.

Click.

The door locked.

Evelyn pulled hard on the door.

The sound of a chain wrapping around came from outside.

Zack had locked the door dead.

He clapped his hands. "Grace Nan, serve Mr. Vance well. The company can be saved! Don't you dare resist!"

Zack was immensely pleased with himself.

After meeting Mr. Valentine at the funeral, the man had ignored him.

When he noticed Grace's resemblance to Mrs. Vance, he hatched this plan.

Offer Grace to Mr. Vance. Then he could connect with the Vance family!

Mrs. Davis appeared behind him. "Son, will this work?"

Zack sneered. "It's just that between men and women. Grace is in poor health. She can't bear a son. We'll rely on Kelsey to continue the family line. That face of Grace's is finally useful. I'm not even afraid of being cuckolded. Why are you worried?"

Kelsey was his mistress. She was pregnant with a son.

Mrs. Davis was waiting to hold her grandson.

"That's not what I meant... What if Grace refuses?"

"Relax..." Zack said smugly. "They've both been drugged. That stuff is strong..."

Mrs. Davis asked another question. "Why do Grace and Mrs. Vance look so alike? Their resemblance shocked me when I saw the funeral photo... Are they twins?"

Zack rubbed his chin. "Grace is an orphan. She was adopted. They're probably twins. This funeral was worth attending!"

Mrs. Davis frowned. "If they're twins, couldn't we connect with Mr. Vance through that relationship? Why send her to his bed?"

Zack waved his hand. "His wife is dead. Why would he keep ties with her family? Grace's face is pretty. Offer her to Mr. Vance. We'll have future connections. Relying on Grace's relationship would mean looking to her for favors in the future. Now we hold evidence of her affair... Heh. I'll be in charge of this house from now on!"

Mrs. Davis's eyes lit up. "Son, you're so clever!"

They discussed in low voices as they returned to their room.

Inside the room.

Evelyn didn't hear their words. But she guessed Zack's plan.

She couldn't help but feel contempt.

Grace Nan, what kind of husband did you find!

"Evelyn... It's really you!"

A deep, hoarse voice came from behind.

Evelyn stiffened.

Her mask was long gone. There was no time to put it back on.

Alexander Vance had seen her face!

Evelyn clenched her fists. She turned slowly.

She looked at Alexander. Her eyes were full of longing.

Her mother had been taken.

Her sister was dead.

Her family had fallen apart.

Now, it seemed Alexander was all she had left.

This thought shattered her.

The burning heat inside her didn't want to be suppressed.

She had been holding back too much. She needed release!

Forget his unattainable love. Forget his savior.

Evelyn walked toward Alexander.

She had just taken a step. Her legs went weak.

She fell into Alexander's arms.

Alexander had been drugged too.

Seeing her face. Smelling her familiar scent. His reason collapsed.

He didn't restrain his longing. He lowered his head and kissed her lips fiercely.
