Marcus Valentine was stunned. "A DNA test?"
Third Master Valentine's expression was grave. "She looks almost identical to the old lady in her youth."
Marcus found it unbelievable. "You want a DNA test just based on looks? That's too rash!"
Third Master Valentine shot him a cold glance.
Marcus immediately fell silent. "Fine. I'll arrange it right away."
…
Grace Nan's social circle was practically nonexistent.
Evelyn Ross scrolled through the phone's contact list. There wasn't a single friend she could reach out to.
Just as she was feeling troubled, her phone rang.
It was an unknown number.
She waited until it rang three times before answering.
Silence greeted her on the other end.
Evelyn tentatively spoke. "May I ask who's calling?"
The person's breathing noticeably hitched. Then came a voice压抑着怒气. "You deleted my number?"
Evelyn frowned. "Who is this?"
"…Half a year without contact, and you can't even recognize my voice? Grace Nan, you're something else!"
Evelyn sighed inwardly.
Trouble.
This tone sounded like a close old friend. But she knew nothing about Grace Nan's social circle.
From the sound of it, Grace Nan had deleted this person's contact.
There must have been some falling out between them.
Evelyn paused for a moment before speaking calmly. "What do you want?"
This immediately set the other person off.
"Grace Nan! Don't go too far! Do you really think I can't live without you? If I hadn't seen Zack Davis parading his mistress around, I wouldn't bother with you!
Ever since you got married, Zack complained I was always picking on him. He badmouthed me to you constantly! He pressured you to cut ties with me.
Since you value romance over friendship, I don't need to be polite either!
You deleted me for that man. And now? He's out partying while you're at home turning into a housewife!"
Evelyn raised an eyebrow.
She waited for the other person to finish venting before asking calmly. "Are you done?"
The other person was breathing heavily with anger. "Didn't you hear me? He's cheating! This time I have photos and videos! Last time you said I was framing him. Now the evidence is solid!"
"I see."
Evelyn's response made the other person choke. "That's it? You still don't believe me? Fine. Consider me meddling!"
Evelyn could tell this was genuine concern. She suddenly said. "Let's meet."
"Don't believe me? Then see the evidence! I'm coming to your place right now!"
The call ended abruptly.
Evelyn was thoughtful.
This friend might know Grace Nan's secrets.
Half an hour later, the doorbell rang.
Evelyn opened the door. A young man in a suit stood outside.
The man offered a professional smile. "Miss Nan, I'm Xiao Wang from property management. Your fee for this month hasn't been paid. Prepaying for six months gets you a ten percent discount…"
Evelyn frowned.
She was short on funds right now. She refused directly. "Just this month."
The man's smile didn't waver. "Miss Nan, it's the year-end push. Please help me out. Everyone else prepaid for six months. This puts me in a difficult position…"
Evelyn said coldly. "It's my choice whether to pay or not."
The man's smile faded. He glanced inside. "Miss Nan, no offense, but if you pinch pennies like this, no wonder your husband is never home…"
Evelyn's eyes turned icy. She was about to speak when a clear female voice interrupted. "What kind of dog is barking nonsense here?"
Evelyn turned. She saw a well-dressed girl standing not far away.
Chanel jacket, personal driver. Clearly a rich heiress.
The girl strode over. She smirked at the property manager. "What's your employee number? Daring to speak to a resident like that? Do you want to keep your job?"
The property manager frowned. "And who are you?"
The girl scoffed. She checked his ID badge and dialed a number. "Mr. Locsitant, is Jade Willow Gardens under your management? Employee number 1339 was rude to my friend. Handle it."
Two minutes later, the property manager's phone rang.
After the call, his face turned pale. He hurriedly apologized. "Miss Sherwood, I didn't know she was your friend. I was wrong…"
Mina Sherwood said coldly. "Get lost. Or I'll make sure you can't work in New York again."
The property manager fled.
Mina then looked at Evelyn. Her eyes were full of frustration. "Grace Nan, you're something else. Reduced to being bullied by property management? Weren't you going to be better off without me? Is this the happy life you wanted?"
Every word was sharp, but concern shone through.
Evelyn remained silent.
At least Grace Nan had once had a true friend.
Mina saw her lack of response and deflated. She pulled out her phone and thrust it forward. "You believe Zack, right? Look at these videos and photos. See for yourself!"
Evelyn didn't take it. "Not necessary."
Mina's eyes reddened with anger. "Grace Nan, you're hopeless! He'll cheat you out of everything sooner or later!"
She turned to leave.
But her wrist was suddenly grabbed.
