Alexander Vance’s smile instantly froze.
He quickly realized the problem.
Evelyn refused to acknowledge him because of this misunderstanding?
His eyes stung, but the corners of his mouth lifted.
He stepped forward and took Evelyn’s hand, guiding it to his left hand.
Evelyn frowned and tried to pull away.

“She saved me but had to return home to suffer. She cried and asked me to marry her…”
Evelyn’s pupils constricted sharply.
Alexander smiled bitterly. “After returning home, I kept looking for her.”
“But Little Dumpling had no name. When I found Sophia Watson, she recounted everything clearly.”
“She said the token was lost. She had been abused and developed mental illness, waiting for me to save her…”
He gazed at Evelyn. “It wasn’t until I received this ring that I realized I had mistaken the person.”
“My Little Dumpling has been suffering all these years, and I failed to find her…”
Evelyn’s eyes reddened, her throat tight.
She looked at Alexander, unsure whether to laugh or cry.
After a long while, she softly asked, “When did you receive the ring?”
“The day you had the accident.”
Evelyn lowered her eyes. “Then why did you still want to divorce me? You said ‘see you at two, no exceptions’.”
Alexander suddenly pulled her into his arms. “Evelyn, do you know how much I regret it?”
“I wanted to surprise you. I planned to tell you the truth at City Hall.”
“I wanted to tell you that you were my savior. That I would marry no one but you…”
His voice trembled. “I never expected you to have an accident…”
“You left with the misunderstanding of divorce. Every time I thought of you suffocating on that ship, believing I abandoned you, it hurt so much I couldn’t breathe…”
Evelyn felt his body shaking and suddenly understood everything.
She reached out and hugged him back.
His response was a passionate, trembling kiss.
Her freshly put-on clothes slipped off again.

Alexander wished he could meld her into his bones and blood, never to be apart again.

Mina waved her hand. “No need to explain. I get it.”
“Zack cheated first. It’s only fair you find a young hunk.”
She added, “But pace yourselves next time. There’s plenty of time!”
“Don’t wear down that iron rod into a needle!”
“Pfft—”
Evelyn spat out her water.
Mina dodged disdainfully as her phone vibrated violently.
Evelyn picked up a sandwich and took a bite, hearing Mina exclaim in amazement. “Grace, New York is about to change!”
“How?”
“The Vance family from San Francisco announced their entry into New York!”
“They started planning a month ago. They’re the richest family in San Francisco, as powerful as the five great families.”
“Their arrival will probably reshuffle New York’s landscape!”
Alexander had mentioned entering New York last night.
Evelyn wasn’t surprised.
Mina continued, “I heard the Vance family head, Alexander Vance, is not even thirty yet.”
“He’s about to stand equal with the five great families. Impressive… but it’s none of my business.”
The master bedroom door suddenly opened.
Alexander had OCD and wouldn’t wear yesterday’s clothes. Evelyn had to find him unworn loungewear that belonged to Zack.
The man wore a white short-sleeve shirt. The cotton pants were too short, ending above his ankles.
The usually powerful business magnate now resembled a pure college boy.
Mina’s eyes lit up. She poked Evelyn. “Grace, good taste! Which school is he from?”
“This boy toy is much better than Zack!”

She and Mina admired Alexander’s new look together.
His usual suits had suppressed his beauty. Now, with messy hair and no makeup, his stunning features stood out.
Mina approached Alexander. “Young man, take good care of my friend, understand?”
