Evelyn narrowed her eyes but didn't rise.
Tina frowned impatiently. "Are you worried about explaining things to Mina? Don't be. I'll tell her you had an emergency and left."
Evelyn chuckled softly. "But I don't have any emergency."
Tina was taken aback.
Several cousins immediately chimed in.
"How can you be so dense?"
"We've made it clear you're not welcome. How can you have the nerve to stay?"
Evelyn's peach-blossom eyes lifted sharply.
She stood up abruptly and kicked a nearby wooden chair, shattering it.
A loud crash echoed through the room.
Wood splinters flew everywhere.
The women recoiled in fear, their faces pale.
Evelyn blinked innocently at them. "Sorry, misjudged my strength. What were you saying?"
As they opened their mouths to speak, she added lazily, "You might want to step back further. Wouldn't want any splinters."
Everyone fell silent.
They hastily retreated several more steps.
Tina glared at her furiously. "How dare you cause trouble in the Sherwood house?"
Evelyn replied calmly, "Already did. What are you going to do? Call security to throw me out? With all the reporters outside for the Sherwood-Valentine wedding, a scene wouldn't look good for you, would it?"
Tina was speechless. "You..."
Evelyn scoffed, pulled over another chair, and sat down.
She picked up a mirror and checked her reflection with perfect composure.
Tina stamped her foot in frustration but finally waved a hand. "Forget it!"
The other women huddled in a corner of the room, keeping their distance.
Penelope suddenly spoke up. "Let's hurry with our makeup. We shouldn't delay."
Tina's eyes lit up.
She immediately called to the makeup artist attending Evelyn. "You! Come here! Attend to Miss Penelope first!"
The makeup artist hesitated. "Miss Sherwood, Miss Ross just started..."
"So what? Who is more important, Miss Penelope or her? Miss Penelope is the only unmarried daughter of the Valentine family now! The Valentine's treasured pearl! Are you looking down on Miss Penelope?"
Penelope stiffened slightly at the mention of "adopted daughter."
Tina, oblivious, continued to threaten. "Do you believe I can have you fired with one word?"
The makeup artist looked on the verge of tears.
Evelyn gently patted her hand. "Go ahead."
The makeup artist gave her a grateful look and gathered her things to move.
Seeing this, the other makeup artists didn't dare approach.
Seven or eight makeup artists busied themselves around the other five bridesmaids.
Evelyn looked at her reflection in the mirror, only her lips colored.
