Evelyn Ross halted abruptly.
Her sharp gaze swept across the hospital room.
Jane Evans's hands were covered in blood.
The apple peel was stained a glaring red.
She held up her trembling wrist.
A deep, bone-exposing wound gushed blood.
Evelyn's pupils constricted violently.
She rushed into the room. "Jane!"
Jane looked up, her eyes rimmed red.
She stared fixedly at her violently shaking right hand.
The wound on her wrist was deep enough to reveal bone.
Blood poured out incessantly.
Her entire right hand was completely useless.
Evelyn's voice was tense. "What happened?"
Jane frantically gestured in sign language.
But no one in the room understood.
She tried to find pen and paper to write.
But her writing hand was completely ruined.
Tears instantly blurred her vision.
Her dream was to become a surgeon.
If her right hand was ruined…
How could she ever hold a scalpel?
Her career was utterly destroyed!
She whipped her head around to glare at Jason Evans.
Her eyes filled with pure hatred.
Evelyn pressed immediately. "Did he do this?"
Jane nodded emphatically.
Evelyn quickly scanned the room.
Jason lay immobilized in bed.
But a pillow and a fruit knife were scattered at Jane's feet.
Putting the scene together…
Evelyn understood instantly. "He made you peel the apple, then hit you with the pillow, causing you to cut your wrist?"
Jane nodded, crying.
Jason snorted derisively. "So what? She can't even peel an apple properly!"
Jane glared at him through her tears.
It wasn't her fault at all.
Jason had been deliberately tormenting her.
He scolded her for wasting if the peel was too thick.
He threatened to report her if it was too thin.
She had to focus completely on peeling.
Just as the blade passed over her wrist…
The pillow suddenly struck!
The fruit knife jerked violently…
Severing the tendon directly!
Now her entire right hand was completely useless.
Jane wept in despair.
She couldn't speak.
The suffocating frustration in her chest felt ready to explode.
She could only stare fixedly at Jason.
Desperately, she opened her mouth.
But no sound came out.
Evelyn hurriedly tried to soothe her. "Jane, don't panic. I know you've been wronged…"
Jane shook her head, crying.
Jason sneered. "What wrong has she suffered? I'm the one who's been wronged! She can't even peel an apple properly. What kind of doctor is she? A shaky waste like her should just change careers!"
He turned and ordered his assistant. "Go tell the Dean and her supervisor she managed to cut her hand peeling an apple. Someone this clumsy doesn't deserve to be hired permanently!"
The assistant nodded. "Yes, sir."
The assistant moved to leave.
Jane grabbed his arm desperately.
She shook her head in anguish.
Unable to write.
She opened and closed her mouth frantically.
Large tears rolled down her cheeks.
Jason barked sharply. "What are you waiting for? Go!"
The assistant shook Jane off brutally.
Jane lunged forward and grabbed him again.
In her absolute desperation…
She finally rasped out two words. "...No… Don't…"
The voice was hoarse and broken.
But the words were clearly spoken.
The two words made Evelyn start.
Jane herself was stunned.
She stared blankly at the assistant.
Jason mocked her. "Oh, the little mute can talk? Were you faking it for sympathy? The school even waived your tuition. Were you scamming them for benefits?"
Jane waved her hands frantically. "...I… didn't…"
The pronunciation was difficult.
But she had indeed made sound.
Evelyn rushed forward in delight. "Jane, you can speak!"
Jane nodded, crying and laughing simultaneously.
Jason curled his lip in disdain. "So what if she can talk? She's quitting this internship today! I heard she even wants to get into the Nora Research Institute? Without hospital internship experience, let's see how she gets in!"
Evelyn looked sharply at Jane. "You want to enter the Nora Research Institute?"
Jane hesitated, then nodded.
Evelyn stated firmly. "I'll help you."
Jason laughed as if he'd heard the biggest joke. "You'll help? The medical system is controlled by our Evans family! One word from the Evans family, and the Nora Research Institute will never accept her!"
Justin Evans chimed in from the side. "Exactly! Evelyn, your friend is finished! I'll have the hospital fire her right now!"
Just then, Justin's phone rang.
It was Mrs. Evans calling.
He answered. "Mom, are the bodyguards here? Check every phone number. We'll find my sister for sure!"
