Mina Sherwood's chopsticks paused slightly.
She remained silent.
She quietly drank another bowl of soup.
Then she put down her bowl.
"I'm full."
Evelyn Ross immediately looked at her. "Eat a bit more. You're eating for two now."
Mina gave a bitter smile. "No appetite."
Evelyn sighed. "Alright. Go rest then."
Mina pressed her lips together.
Her gaze finally drifted toward the window.
She spoke softly. "Grace, can you..."
"Yes. I'll make him leave right now."
Evelyn stood up.
She walked to the door.
Grabbing an umbrella, she rushed into the heavy rain.
Marcus Valentine was already completely drenched.
The cold wind whipped against him.
He seemed numb to it.
Evelyn spoke. "Big brother, are you trying to pressure Mina?"
Marcus paused. "No, I'm not."
Evelyn looked down. "Then standing here is just forcing either her or me to let you inside, isn't it?"
Marcus looked at her with hopeful eyes. "Then can I come in..."
"No."
Evelyn refused coldly.
She stated directly. "Your presence is making Mina restless."
"She just had a miscarriage. Her body is very weak and needs proper rest."
"Are you sure you still want to stay here?"
Marcus was taken aback.
Evelyn sighed. "You should at least give her more time to think."
"That incident just happened yesterday. Do you really think it's possible for her to forgive you today?"
Marcus clenched his fingers.
After a long moment, he slowly looked up toward the second floor.
A figure appeared at the window.
But it was only a shadow. The person couldn't be seen.
Marcus smiled bitterly. "Little sister, do you think Mina will forgive me?"
"I don't know." Evelyn looked at him. "If it were me, I probably wouldn't."
"But her... I'm not sure."
Evelyn had always been a free-spirited person.
When Alexander Vance wavered between his Unattainable Love and her, she simply chose to walk away.
If Alexander dared treat her the way Marcus treated Mina, she would definitely leave immediately.
Marcus lowered his head with a bitter smile. "I'm just afraid she won't forgive me."
Evelyn sighed again. "But if you stay here, she definitely won't sleep well tonight."
After saying this, she placed the umbrella in her hand into Marcus's.
She turned to run back home, but upon looking back, she saw Alexander standing behind her.
He was wearing pajamas and holding an umbrella.
She immediately ducked under Alexander's umbrella.
The two turned and entered the living room.
After entering, Evelyn stamped her feet to shake off the dampness from her shoes.
She then said to Alexander, "It was just a few steps. I could have run. Why did you come out? Now your clothes are damp too."
Alexander looked down at her without speaking.
He had promised to walk every future path with her.
These few steps counted as a path too.
He reached out and ruffled Evelyn's hair with a gentle smile.
He placed the umbrella aside and nodded toward something behind Evelyn.
Evelyn turned around and saw Marcus holding the umbrella.
He had silently turned and was walking toward the gate.
She breathed a sigh of relief. "If he really stood here all night, Mina definitely wouldn't sleep."
"She's already overthinking and worrying enough. I'm really worried about her baby..."
This child had truly faced a troubled fate.
First, it wasn't wanted by its father.
Then it endured various abortion pills.
Finally, it underwent an amniocentesis...
If Mina hadn't been raised well since childhood and been in good health, anyone else might have miscarried.
Alexander nodded. "Don't overthink it. Come back with me and rest. You've been busy all day."
"Okay."
Evelyn and Alexander went upstairs.
They first went to check on the sleeping little Chloe.
Over this period, little Chloe's face had filled out a bit.
It was no longer the thin, pointed little瓜子face from before.
She was sleeping soundly...
For a child, no matter how hard life was before, happiness can make them forget past unhappiness.
Parents only need to be slightly good to them, and they will be very happy.
If Mina could be like a child, forgetting past events, how good would that be?
Unfortunately, there are no ifs.
The damage Marcus caused her was already done. It was irreparable.
Evelyn gently touched Chloe's cheek and left the room with Alexander.
As they were leaving, Alexander couldn't help but ask, "You like children that much?"
"Of course." Evelyn replied. "They are so pure and lovely! In their eyes, there are no worries."
Alexander lowered his voice. "Then in the future, we can have several?"
"Heh. If you're the one giving birth, then we can have several." Evelyn rolled her eyes.
Alexander paused slightly.
Then he silently sighed.
Indeed, a woman of Evelyn's character would never willingly have children for him.
He only wished the uterus was inside him.
If it were, he would definitely have several children to keep her.
For some reason, he always felt Evelyn was drifting further away from him.
Just as Alexander's heart was slowly cooling, he heard the woman speak lazily again. "One boy and one girl is enough."
Alexander's eyes instantly lit up. He caught up to her. "Have a boy first or a girl first?"
"Either is fine. Do you prefer boys or girls?"
"Whatever you give birth to, I'll like it."
Evelyn rolled her eyes and glanced at him. "Mr. Vance, do you know what you look like right now?"
"What?"
"A lovesick fool."
Alexander chuckled but still stayed by her side. "Being a lovesick fool is the best betrothal gift a man can offer."
That night, Evelyn paid the price for teasing Alexander.
When it ended the first time, she originally planned to sleep well.
But the man pulled her over again.
Evelyn: "...Isn't that enough for today?"
"No." The man's voice was hoarse. "I'm a lovesick fool."
Evelyn tried to push the man away. "You need to exercise restraint. This is bad for your health."
"I know." The man's kisses fell again. "But I'm a lovesick fool."
He held her, moving from the sofa to the bed.
Finally, she felt so exhausted she couldn't even move a finger.
But the man still held her tightly.
She moved slightly and sighed. "Sleep, lovesick fool."
Watching her close her eyes, seemingly about to fall asleep the next second, Alexander chuckled softly.
After experiencing so much today, her overthinking nature would definitely dwell on things.
So it was better to exercise more, making it easier for her to fall asleep.
He lay beside her, then suddenly got up.
He picked up his phone and went to the balcony, calling Thomas Watson. "Help me investigate the Evans family..."
Thomas immediately asked, "Investigate what?"
Alexander's gaze suddenly deepened. "Investigate everything."
Thomas paused, cautiously asking, "And then?"
"Acquire it."
Thomas: "..."
"Boss, the Vance Group probably can't acquire the Evans family. Are you planning to use overseas resources?"
Alexander stared into the distant darkness.
The unclear distance was like that unknown danger.
His voice was calm. "Yes."
His tone made it sound like he was buying a loaf of bread.
"Received."
Thomas's reply was equally simple. "But boss, didn't you say before you wouldn't move against domestic families? Doing this now... aren't you afraid of exposing your identity?"
Alexander scoffed. "That's a problem for you to consider."
"...Okay." Thomas muttered quietly. "After acquiring the Evans family, should we acquire the other families too? Miss Evelyn wants to cooperate with the five great families. Why not just acquire all five and give them to Miss Evelyn as a betrothal gift..."
Perhaps because he was recently satisfied, Alexander tolerated his rambling.
Just before hanging up, Alexander suddenly added, "By the way, also investigate that Jane Evans and the Evans family..."
Thomas Watson paused.
