Chapter 72

Alexander Vance turned to leave.

Ryan Roland frowned. "Alexander Vance, don't be ungrateful..."

Before he could finish, Alexander spun around.

The man's eyes were sinister, his expression dark and menacing like a demon from hell.

Ryan's words caught in his throat.

Alexander stared at him, his voice low. "Mr. Roland, we are merely business partners."

He turned and walked away.

Ryan stood frozen, his face tense.

Throughout this collaboration, Alexander had always acted like a refined gentleman.

It made Ryan almost forget this man was once notorious for his ruthlessness.

That look just now made him realize the rumors were true.

Ryan watched him.

The man's menacing aura gradually dissipated as he approached Evelyn Ross.

Returning to her side, he became that normal, albeit somewhat aloof, person again.

...

Evelyn wore the man's jacket.

The suit's inner lining carried his body warmth, enveloping her completely.

A faint scent of vanilla reached her.

Her heart softened.

Seeing him wearing only a shirt, she picked up the Shiba Inu. "Let's go back."

"Okay."

The next morning.

Alexander went to work.

Evelyn sat on the sofa, basking in the sunlight.

She had finally completed the final stages of her Alzheimer's research.

After sending the email to the overseas base, she stood up and stretched.

Picking up her phone, she saw a message from Chloe Roland: [Are you free tomorrow night? Can you come keep me company?]

Evelyn replied: [I have to attend the Vance and Roland celebration banquet.]

Just after sending the message, James Klein called. "Boss, there's a problem with the project."

Evelyn's voice was calm. "Go on."

James said angrily, "Our hydrogen energy materials have always been supplied by the Roland family. Today, they suddenly stopped selling to us! We're short on raw materials, and finding another supplier last minute takes time... We signed contracts with clients. This will cause a breach!"

Evelyn frowned. "The New York Roland family?"

Her company was managed by James; she only handled the technology.

She didn't realize they also had dealings with the Roland family.

James replied, "Yes, them. The sales manager said someone higher up explicitly ordered not to sell to us!"

Evelyn lowered her gaze. "Understood. I'll look into it."

Hanging up, she headed towards the rehabilitation department.

She was friends with Chloe and had a good relationship with Mr. and Mrs. Roland.

She planned to ask them directly, to see if someone was causing trouble.

Just as she reached the inpatient department, she ran into Ryan Roland.

He seemed to have just returned and was about to go upstairs.

Evelyn quickened her pace. "Mr. Roland, hello."

Ryan stopped. His gentle expression turned cold upon seeing her.

Evelyn asked, puzzled, "I'm Dr. Nan. My company has been purchasing hydrogen energy materials from your company, but supply was suddenly cut off this month. Is there some misunderstanding?"

"There is no misunderstanding."

Ryan's expression was icy, his eyes filled with disgust. "I gave the order not to sell to you."

Evelyn was taken aback. "Why?"

Ryan frowned. "Have you forgotten what you said so quickly, Miss Ross?"

Evelyn was baffled.

Had she said something wrong while accompanying Chloe?

She had no recollection.

Besides, Chloe was just texting her...

Evelyn said directly, "Even if I said something wrong, Chloe probably doesn't mind. Considering I've helped Chloe before, could you please make an exception?"

The words "small favor" made Ryan think she meant testifying.

He scolded, "How dare you mention Chloe? Testifying is every citizen's duty!"

Evelyn's voice turned cold. "Mr. Roland, nothing is an absolute 'should'."

Ryan grew angrier. "You're right, Miss Ross. So the Roland family isn't obligated to sell materials to you either."

Evelyn took a deep breath.

During their first meeting, she thought Chloe's brother seemed nice.

She didn't expect him to be so cold and unforgiving.

She wanted to say more, but Ryan had already strode into the rehabilitation department.

His assistant blocked the entrance. "Miss, please don't cause a disturbance. You'll disturb the patients."

Furious, Evelyn turned and left.

Fine, she would talk to Mr. and Mrs. Roland at the banquet tomorrow!

Time quickly passed until the next evening.

The new project between Vance Group and the Roland family involved billions, worth celebrating.

They held a large celebration banquet at The Ritz-Carlton.

Many Vance Group employees attended, and some Roland family members flew in from New York.

At the hospital.

Chloe put on her evening gown and was carried to her wheelchair by Ryan.

Mr. Roland was amused. "Don't you hate these kinds of events the most? Why are you so insistent on going today?"

Mrs. Roland also tried to persuade her. "Don't go. I'll stay here with you."

Chloe looked listless, staring at her phone. "Since yesterday, my savior's replies have been distant. I asked her to keep me company, but she made excuses. I have to find her at the banquet! Let's go quickly."

Ryan wheeled her to the parking lot.

Just as he was about to help her into the car, a stretched Bentley drove past.

The Roland family turned and saw Evelyn and Alexander sitting in the back seat.

Chloe's eyes lit up. She quickly called out, "Savior!"
