Jeremy Brown was completely stunned.
Evelyn Ross and Isabella Ashcroft had a terrible relationship in college.
The whole class had noticed this.
But no one knew the exact reason.
At the graduation ceremony, Julian Evans proposed to Isabella.
Everyone vaguely guessed it was a love rivalry over a man.
Why would Dr. Nan accept Isabella?
Jeremy Brown was so lost in thought that he spoke aloud.
The dinner table fell silent instantly.
All his classmates turned to look at him.
Someone hesitantly asked, "Jeremy Brown, what did you just say?"
Jeremy Brown snapped back to reality.
He looked at Evelyn Ross apologetically.
Evelyn's expression remained calm.
She hadn't wanted to reveal her identity.
But now it didn't matter anymore.
She was about to speak.
But Sophia Watson's voice cut in first. "Jeremy Brown, you're not saying Evelyn Ross is Dr. Nan, are you? Stop joking around!"
The group burst into laughter.
"Jeremy Brown, that's getting more and more ridiculous!"
"Stop trying to show off here!"
"Dr. Nan published important papers three years ago. We were only sophomores then. How could she have done that?"
"Jeremy Brown, you're killing me…"
Seeing their disbelief, Jeremy Brown grew stubborn. "I work at Dr. Nan's company. How wouldn't I know? Evelyn Ross is Dr. Nan!"
All eyes focused on Evelyn.
Sophia sneered. "Evelyn Ross, do you dare admit it?"
"The person herself won't even speak. Jeremy Brown, stop making things up."
"This kind of international joke isn't funny at all."
Jeremy Brown looked at everyone with grievance. "Why won't you believe me?"
He turned to Evelyn.
Suddenly remembering her always low-key nature.
He regretted his momentary impulse.
He didn't dare put her in a difficult position again.
He lowered his head.
But then he heard a light, clear voice beside him. "He's right."
Jeremy Brown's head shot up. "You admit it?"
Evelyn took a sip of tea. "There's no need to hide it deliberately."
Jeremy Brown immediately smiled. "Yes, you're absolutely right!"
Their exchange made the classmates exchange confused glances.
Sophia's eyes darted between them. "Jeremy Brown, you're defending her so much today just because of this? You two had no connection before!"
Jeremy Brown nodded. "We're all classmates. There's no deep grudge. I just found out today she's Dr. Nan…"
Sophia scoffed. "You've been fooled! Evelyn Ross, you're impersonating Dr. Nan just to get Jeremy Brown to help you? How hypocritical!"
She turned to Jeremy Brown. "Use your brain! How could someone so young be Dr. Nan? Dr. Nan advanced the entire industry. She should at least be a middle-aged scholar!"
The classmates chimed in agreement.
"Evelyn, are you joking?"
"Jeremy Brown, you're already working. How can you still be so naive?"
"Dr. Nan is a specially appointed mentor at the university now. Professor Lowell must have met her. This lie will be exposed immediately…"
Jeremy Brown didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Why won't you believe me? Evelyn never intended to reveal it. I found out when I added her on WhatsApp…"
Sophia rolled her eyes. "You're completely bewitched! Isabella, aren't you going to be Dr. Nan's graduate student? You've met Dr. Nan, right? Is it her?"
Isabella's nails dug into her palms.
A sense of shame washed over her.
How could she possibly help verify Evelyn's identity?
She forced a smile. "I've given up on graduate school. I plan to directly manage the family business."
Sophia was stunned. "You haven't met Dr. Nan either?"
Isabella remained silent.
Julian frowned and interrupted. "Today is Professor Lowell's birthday. Let's not talk about this anymore."
Everyone seized the opportunity to change the subject.
But quiet discussions continued.
"Is Julian still protecting Evelyn Ross?"
"He pursued her for four years without success. He must still be hung up on her."
"Evelyn is utterly absurd. How dare she tell such a lie…"
Professor Lowell hurried over.
He apologized repeatedly. "I had classes this morning and I'm late. Sorry for making everyone wait!"
Everyone stood up to welcome him.
They exchanged a few pleasantries.
Suddenly, Sophia's sharp voice rang out. "Professor Lowell, you missed quite a show! Evelyn Ross claims she's Dr. Nan. Don't you think that's hilarious?"
