Dean Frank Melville?
Everyone looked stunned.
Alexander Vance's eyes flickered, his gaze landing on Evelyn Ross.
Her expression was calm, as if she had expected this.
Alexander understood instantly.
He spoke to the butler in a low voice.
"Stay calm. Invite them in."
The butler was sweating, his voice tight.
"Dean Melville brought the police. He says someone at the institute stole from within and is here to make an arrest!"
The room fell silent.
Dr. Liam Lawrence turned pale.
He glared at Evelyn.
"It's you! You know Frank Melville! You reported me?!"
Alexander's voice was cold.
"Do not make baseless accusations."
Dr. Lawrence was agitated.
"I was in charge of the medication. It was locked in the safe. Only Dean Melville and I had the keys. The dean is in San Francisco. If you hadn't told him, how would he know?"
He stared intently at Evelyn.
"I stole the medicine to save the老夫人! If you didn't want to give the shares, you should have just said so! Why go for the kill?!"
Cecilia Evans frowned.
"Why else? They were afraid Elder Howard would give the shares. This way, it's settled for everyone."
She sighed, looking at Alexander and Evelyn.
"Uncle, Aunt. The institute has strict controls on medication. What you've done cuts off grandmother's lifeline!"
Robert Vance was furious.
"Alexander Vance, you beast! Liam broke the law for your grandmother! Even an outsider is willing to go all out, and you? Where is your conscience?!"
Richard Evans said sinisterly.
"Father, perhaps Alexander didn't know. It might all be his wife's idea."
Robert became even angrier.
"Alexander Vance, did you know or not? If you didn't, divorce her now! The Vance family does not want such an unfilial daughter-in-law!"
Evelyn remained silent, looking at Alexander.
She was about to explain when Alexander stepped in front of her.
His voice was firm.
"What she did, I did."
Evelyn was slightly startled.
Warmth rose in her heart.
Elder Howard Vance raised his cane and swung it hard at Alexander!
"Wretch! I'll beat you to death!"
Alexander stood motionless.
Evelyn quickly stepped forward and grabbed the cane.
Elder Howard glared at her.
"What are you doing?!"
Evelyn's tone was calm.
"Granduncle, that's not what happened. Let Dean Melville come in. I guarantee there will be a turnaround."
Elder Howard was furious.
"What turnaround could there be? The police take Liam away. What about the third dose of medicine? Can it be hidden?"
Dr. Lawrence sneered.
"I didn't bring the third dose! There will be no more medication!"
Elder Howard slammed the table.
"Alexander Vance, you've been foolish!!"
On the sickbed, Eleanor Vance spoke weakly.
"Little brother, don't scold them. Alexander and Evelyn aren't that kind of people. They must have a good reason…"
Robert sneered.
"Mother, you gave him over twenty percent of the shares, and he won't even part with three percent! And you still defend him?"
Richard Evans said coolly.
"Grandmother, if Alexander was unwilling to give the shares, I would have been willing to help you. It's a pity there's no chance now…"
As they spoke, the butler led Dean Melville and the police into the room.
Frank Melville walked straight to Dr. Lawrence.
"Liam Lawrence, I trusted you so much! I thought as a Truman family relative, no one could pressure you. I never expected you to steal from within!"
He had heard what Evelyn said yesterday and thought it was a misunderstanding. He rushed back to New York overnight.
Upon opening the safe, he found one of the fifty medication packages missing.
He was terrified and immediately returned to give Dr. Nan an explanation.
Dr. Lawrence hurried to explain.
"Dean Melville, I was trying to save someone…"
"No explanations needed!" Frank Melville cut him off, looking at the police.
"The evidence is conclusive. Please take him away."
He said in Evelyn's direction.
"The value of the stolen medication is inestimable. The police require an assessment. It hasn't been marketed yet, so the price isn't set…"
Evelyn chuckled.
"Just now, Dr. Lawrence demanded three percent of the shares. How many billions is three percent of the Vance Group worth?"
She looked at Alexander.
Alexander cooperated.
"Approximately…"
"No! That's not true!" Dr. Lawrence panicked.
The punishment was based on the medication's price. If it was really worth billions, he could get life imprisonment!
He looked at Cecilia Evans and shouted.
"I didn't ask for the shares! She was the one who wanted them! I didn't take a single cent! I just wanted to do a favor for the Truman family! Check my bank account if you don't believe me! There are no large deposits!"
This was the truth.
Being a Truman family relative was just that. He wanted to use this to strengthen his ties with the Trumans. The future benefits were immeasurable.
Cecilia Evans turned deathly pale.
Evelyn smiled coldly with satisfaction.
"Then calculate it at a hundred times the price after the medication hits the market."
Clinical medication before marketing was more expensive than after.
Frank Melville understood.
He quoted a number to the police.
The amount wasn't high. Dr. Lawrence would get at most two or three years.
But his reputation in the field was ruined. After prison, he could never work as a researcher again.
That was the heaviest punishment.
The police took Dr. Lawrence away.
Only the Vance family remained in the room.
Eleanor Vance sneered.
"So it wasn't Liam being greedy. Cecilia wanted the money? The eldest branch helps me seek treatment, yet they keep such clear accounts?"
Cecilia Evans was ashen.
Richard Evans smiled awkwardly.
"Grandmother, you still blame us? Cecilia…"
