Cecilia's words stunned everyone.
Elder Howard Vance shot to his feet.
"What did you say? The medicine from New York is available now?"
"Of course not."
Richard Evans breathed a sigh of relief.
"If it's not available, and the police took the third dose, where did this medicine come from?"
Evelyn Ross glanced at Dr. Frank Melville.
She hadn't prepared an excuse yet.
Dr. Melville stepped forward with a smile.
"Ms. Ross previously submitted the matriarch's medical records to our institute."
"An eighty-six-year-old patient has limited benefits from the medication."
"It extends life expectancy by two years at most."
"Regulations prohibit dispensing medicine at that age."
He paused.
"But Ms. Ross called me daily."
"Her words were sincere."
"Her filial devotion was truly moving."
"Her character is exceptionally rare…"
Evelyn cleared her throat softly.
Dr. Melville quickly corrected himself.
"In short, Researcher Nora was moved by Ms. Ross's devotion."
"She believed an eighty-six-year-old case held research value."
"She specially approved an exception!"
The crowd was astonished.
Elder Howard looked embarrassed.
"Alexander's wife, why didn't you say so earlier?"
"I misunderstood you…"
Evelyn remained silent.
She had just found out herself.
Eleanor Vance smiled warmly.
"Little brother, I told you she is my most favored granddaughter-in-law."
Elder Howard nodded.
"Sister-in-law, you chose an excellent wife for Alexander."
They shared a knowing smile.
Richard and Robert Vance looked displeased.
Alexander Vance spoke coldly.
"Father, brother, you just insulted Evelyn."
"An apology is due."
Robert choked on his words.
Richard sighed.
"Alexander, if you had explained earlier, this misunderstanding wouldn't have happened…"
"Evelyn obtaining the slot is good news."
"Why keep it secret?"
Robert immediately scoffed.
"Right! Did you deliberately hide it?"
"Was it fun to play us for fools?"
Alexander turned to Cecilia.
"Otherwise, how would we know your precious granddaughter still wanted shares?"
Evelyn nodded.
"Cecilia, if you wanted shares, you should have said so directly."
"Why hide your intentions?"
"Was it fun to play your father and grandfather?"
Robert was speechless.
Richard clenched his jaw.
Cecilia lowered her head, tears falling.
"I'm marrying into the Truman family…"
"But my family prepared no dowry…"
"Now even my cousin is implicated because of me…"
"I have no face to see the Trumans!"
"I won't go through with this marriage!"
She covered her face and ran out.
Robert called out urgently.
"Richard, go comfort her!"
"This marriage must happen!"
Richard hurried after her.
Alexander and Evelyn followed.
Cecilia was in her room, packing her luggage amidst tears.
"Father, I'm too ashamed to stay here."
"I'm moving out immediately."
She grabbed her suitcase to leave.
Evelyn blocked her path.
Cecilia said pitifully.
"Uncle, aunt, I admit I was wrong, alright?"
"Do you want me to kneel and apologize?"
Evelyn replied calmly.
"That won't be necessary."
Cecilia tried to leave again.
Evelyn stopped her once more.
"You can leave."
"But grandmother's belongings stay."
A fierce glint flashed in Cecilia's eyes.
She had packed quickly on purpose to smuggle out the stolen items.
She said with feigned hurt.
"Aunt, this suitcase only has my personal things…"
"Do you want to search it?"
Evelyn gave a light laugh.
"Shall I call the police instead?"
"Grandmother is missing a bracelet."
"It's worth over ten million…"
Cecilia gritted her teeth.
"My apologies. I must have packed it by mistake."
She secretly pulled out the bracelet.
Fiona Vance returned just then with the Shiba Inu.
Evelyn called out.
"Aunt Fiona, please help Miss Cecilia check her luggage."
"Ensure she doesn't mistakenly take grandmother's things again."
Fiona walked over briskly.
"Miss Cecilia, please open your suitcase."
Cecilia's face turned pale.
Evelyn watched with crossed arms.
The frustration from yesterday was finally repaid.
Alexander suddenly whispered.
"Feeling satisfied now, Researcher Nora?"
Evelyn's heart skipped a beat.
